Maundy Thursday: serving, giving, submitting
Dirty, smelly, an unpleasant task for the lowliest slaves, Jesus washes the feet of his disciples.
And tells his followers to do the same for each other.
At supper, Jesus looks around the table at the twelve and declares:
Then, knowing who will betray him, he still offers his body…
and his blood.
Judas goes to the chief priests and Jesus goes to pray. He knows what’s coming and how hard it will be. But his prayer ends with submission to the Father’s will.
And so all the plotting and scheming and betrayal comes to a head. The soldiers come to arrest the man whom Judas will identify with a kiss:
He is the bread of life, which feeds us:
