God RESTORES my soul

I wonder, do you have a friend – or maybe you are that friend – who can tell in a moment when something is wrong? It’s a real comfort to have someone realise when we aren’t ourselves and for them to try and lift our moods with a joke or even just by spending time listening to us. But sometimes even our friends’ best efforts can only give us temporary relief from times of real discomfort.

Psalm 23:3 says:

He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

David praises God for his presence, provision and protection in Psalm 23. It’s obvious that his confidence is placed in God, even during his difficult times.

Where is your confidence placed?

Here in Psalm 23, in the midst of David’s difficulties, he looks directly to the Lord for sustained relief! David knows that it’s God alone who will lead him in the right direction and who can restore his soul. But where does David’s confidence come from?

It comes from him knowing God personally as his Shepherd, who not only guides and protects but leads and restores. When we too realise who God is and how much He loves and cares for his people, surely we too will be fully able to put our confidence in Him no matter the situations we face!

Spend some time today thinking about who God is and how much he loves and cares for you.

Here’s a prayer you could pray:

Help me, Lord, to put my confidence in you alone, both in the ‘good’ times but also in the ‘tough’ times. Use me as an encouragement to those who are suffering at the minute but also help me to point my friends to you for everlasting joy and relief.
