God’s promise to RESTORE
This week’s devotions have been written by Owen Cornford, youthworker at Castle Church, Stafford. Thanks, Owen!
If you’ve been brought up in church or have been to Sunday school down the years you will remember the great story of the Exodus as the Israelites are freed from slavery in Egypt, and how years later they eventually reach the Promised Land with Joshua. What we sometimes forget, however, is that this isn’t ‘The End’ (of the story). For God’s chosen people, the roller coaster ride has just began!
And in a way it’s their own fault, as they keep disobeying God and it results in their exile into slavery in Babylon, away from the Promised Land. But after repenting and calling out to Him, God promises to RESTORE them to the Promised Land. And guess what, God keeps true to his promise and He even heals their broken-hearts along the way.
God keeps true to his promise
This is God’s promise in Amos 9:14:
and I will bring my people Israel back from exile. “They will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them.
But His people aren’t told to put their feet up! In response to God’s promise they will again be given responsibilities to show their thanks and obedience to God, by rebuilding the ruined cities.
Do you find it difficult to keep faith in God during our difficult times? Remember that God’s promises are CERTAIN and should shape the way we live our lives now.
