love to pray (iv)

The Holy Spirit helps us to pray.

The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

Romans 8:26

That is AMAZING. If you don’t know what to pray the Holy Spirit prays for you. If you don’t have the words. If you’re too angry, too afraid, hurting too much, too full of tears to speak, the Holy Spirit prays for you. If you’re too unsure of yourself, too small, too inadequate, too lacking in faith, the Holy Spirit prays for you.

A few years ago I went through a really bad spell of depression. I couldn’t pray. Every time I tried, I just ended up crying. That was all I could do, just cry in God’s presence. But the Holy Spirit knew my heart and my needs, and he prayed on my behalf and brought me back to the Lord in faith and hope..

This is how Mike Reeves puts it in Enjoy your prayer life

The Spirit is the wind in the sails of our prayer as he catches us up into the Son’s love for the Father.

However incoherent, stammering, uncertain our prayers sound to us, the Spirit takes them and prays them for us, better than us, on our behalf in the presence of the Father who loves to hear us.
