New Year Countdown 3: Don’t stop praying

It’s the easiest thing in the world to do, but also the hardest.

It’s the most amazing privilege, and yet we so often take it for granted.

It’s the ultimate expression of faith, and the only thing we can do when we doubt.

We can do it anywhere, at any time, but it’s easier if we have structure and routines.

In prayer we give everything into God’s hands, so that when we live, we are living for him.

There’s nothing about the new year which will make it any easier or harder to pray. But if, like me, you know you don’t pray enough, this might be a good time to think about why that is. Ask God to help you with your prayer life. Plan to pray – set aside specific times and places, have lists of things you want to pray for, use the prayers of the Bible to help you pray better.

Whatever your priorities are for 2016, whatever the habits are that you plan to start, prayer is where we all need to start:

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7
