RESCUED: healed and returned

One more way that the Bible talks about how Jesus RESCUED us is to say that he HEALED us. 1 Peter 2:24-25 says:

He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross,
so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness;
by his wounds you have been healed.
For you were like sheep going astray,
but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

We were broken, beaten, messed up without Christ. Living apart from God takes a toll on us, because it’s not the way we were meant to live. It’s like driving a car with the handbrake on – you can do it, but it’ll do serious damage. You might not always notice the damage at first, but that doesn’t mean it’s not real.

Jesus HEALS us, by his wounds. He suffered, so that we can be made whole again.

He is our doctor.

Can you think of sins which have done damage to your life? Maybe something that’s broken a relationship, or made it more difficult for you to trust people. Thank God that whatever damage has been done can be healed because of Jesus’ wounds.
